About CU Green
CU Green was founded in the Summer of 2007 as a student group linking academia and industry together through the practices of sustainable design. The primary focus of the "green team" is providing industry leaders with practical decisions for a more sustainable future through infrastructure design, building guidelines, and community development.
Mission Statement
CU Green's mission is threefold. First and foremost, we are concerned with the advancement of our students' knowledge in the multitude of fields encompassed by sustainability. Secondly, we aim to provide the tools necessary to educate community leaders and developers on the various techniques, designs, and technologies they can use to not only become more sustainable, but to also know how that benefits them. Lastly, but certianly not least, we are working with industry leaders to pave the way for the use of new technologies and continued research for both the corporate and academic environments.
We accomplish these goals through the following:
- Creating a multidisciplinary team of engineers and designers to work on integrated products unique to the site and specifications of the users
- Tying students and faculty to local leaders for a more meaningful and appropriate design
- Working with leaders in academia, both in Cornell and
beyond, as well as corporate sponsors
- Utilizing the alumni network for
projects abroad to connect students and their designs to the community
By creating a motivational experience rooted in the fundamentals of education and industry experience, CU Green provides students with the tools necessary to succeed in a sustainable future.
Part of a Larger Picture
Cornell University has an active student population concerned with eco-friendly technology and design. There are several sustainability groups on campus, each of which are supported by faculty and staff familiar with the issues. This has shown itself in many forms, including Cornell's masterplan for the Ithaca campus, which will feature many green technologies, and the more recent pledge to carbon neutrality signed by President Skorton on February 27, 2007. Combined with an environmentally conscious local community, Cornell and Ithaca are pitching themselves on the forefront of sustainability.
Cornell's campus has been making strides towards sustainability, including a stance on carbon neutrality.
